Kaz MVC 3 of 4 weeks

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Missouri Valley Conference announced on Monday that University of Evansville baseball player Kevin Kaczmarski was named Player of the Week. This is the third time in four weeks that the outfielder was named MVC Player of the Week.

A Cary, Ill. native, Kaczmarski hit a team best .588 (10-for-17), with the highest slugging percentage (.882) and on-base percentage (.632) of any Purple Ace. He led UE in hits (10), doubles (three), triples (one), runs batted in (eight), total bases (15), and stolen bases (one).

The redshirt senior began the week by guiding the Aces to a season-high in runs during a 19-2 victory against UT-Martin. Kaczmarski was 3-for-5 with a triple, two runs scored and two runs batted in. The triple was the 20th of his Purple Aces career. He is only the second UE baseball player to reach the milestone (Greg Wallace, 25).

Kaczmarski then started the weekend going 4-for-5 at Wichita State with three singles and a game-tying, seventh inning, two-run double.

He then reached base in all five plate appearances on Saturday, ending the day 3-for-3 with a single, two doubles, a walk, and a hit by pitch. He also had a three-run, eighth inning double that pulled UE within a run of tying the Shockers. The pair of doubles moved Kaczmarski into a tie for second place in program history with 66 (Ryan Connors 1997-2000).

The center fielder was 10-for-13 to begin the week before an 0-for-4 performance on Sunday ended his career-high 22 game hitting streak.

His .476 batting average and .552 on-base percentage lead the nation.

This is the sixth Player/Pitcher of the Week award for the UE Baseball team this season. Outfielder Josh Jyawook was named MVC Player of the Week on Feb. 16 after his .385 weekend series against Arkansas – Little Rock. Left-hander Brodie Harkness was also selected as Pitcher of the Week twice (Mar. 9, 23).

The UE baseball team (27-22) completes the midweek portion of the 2015 schedule when the Purple Aces visit Murray State (15-37) on Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. at Reagan Field. The Aces are back at home on Thursday, May 14 for the beginning of a three game series with Austin Peay. First pitch is 6:00 p.m. on May 14 and 15 at Braun Stadium. The contest on Saturday, May 16 is at Austin Peay and will begin at 4:00 p.m. Adult tickets at Braun Stadium are $7 and senior/youth tickets are $5 each.
